This fragrant and delicious herb is high in vitamin A, C and K as well as iron, calcium, dietary fiber, manganese, magnesium, and potassium.
Basil can act as an anti-inflammatory as a component of it can block the activity of COX (an enzyme in the body). Ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen work by blocking this same enzyme. Basil’s high vitamin A content also makes it beneficial for cardiovascular health by preventing free radical damage.
Basil is most widely known for it’s use in pesto sauce (which we love!) and it’s prominence in Italian and Thai food dishes. What is your favorite way to have basil?
